This biennial event organized by the Philippine Die and Mold Association (PDMA), brought together allied leaders and stakeholders in the industry, which discussed the latest technology and practices that guide the development of die- and mold-making around the world.

"Lined up activities included bigger exhibition space, showcasing latest products & machineries; innovative state-of-the-art product launching and presentations; wide array of topics at the technical seminar; and touching base between suppliers and buyers," said Mr. Greg A. Oliveros, PDMEX, Vice-Chairman.

To date, PDMEX is considered the Philippines' largest and focus metalworking show.

Mr. Louie T. Fuster, PDMEX, Chairman
The Die and mold is the "backbone of any industry," said Mr. Louie T. Fuster, PDMEX, Chairman. "It is the key to all process in manufacturing," he added, noting that "everything people encounter" --- from IC MOLDS for the electronic industry, automotive parts, plastic moulds and dies for plastic bottles and various plastic parts in different industries, medical instruments and equipment, including farming implements for the agricultural industries. Die casting and forging for the automotive transmission parts also goes through the process of die and mold design and processing.

"In other countries, they have different specialties, from design to die and mold making, to sampling of actual product.

The Department of Trade and Industry noted that recent studies show that the Philippines tool and die industry is "about 3-5 years behind" in development compared to its peers.

That is why our group has been very active in personnel training so that local producers may be able to cope up with the demand in terms of expertise in die and mold making," added Mr. Oliveros.

Die and mold industry and education experts are working to develop special courses on die and mold engineering in order to further develop the industry in the Philippines.

"We're in the process where we are upgrading everything from facilities and equipment. We do benchmark ourselves with countries like Japan, Singapore, Thailand and even Western countries.
